It’s ironical that these days, people sometimes regret even one marriage, but here, Durlabh Prasad is looking for a second marriage. And the story of Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi justifies it.
Siddharth Raj Singh has directed this film that stars Sanjay Mishra and Shrikant Verma, besides them, you get to see Mahima Chaudhry after a long time. The new girl Pallak Lalwani and the young boy Vyom Yadav are promising actors.
The story of Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi is very interesting and it doesn’t appear cliched or monotonous. Vam Yadav plays the role of Murli, and Palak Lallwani plays the role of Mehak. You might get confused for a second, thinking that Palak Lalwani looks very much like Mrunal Thakur. They have a lot of similarities on the facial front.
When Murli asks for Mehak’s hand in marriage, Mehak’s (Palak Lalwani’s) family puts a condition that their daughter will not get married until there is a woman in his house.
The backstory is that Murli loses his mother just as he is born. His mother passes away, and he grows up in a family where there are only his dad, his uncle, and him. His father doesn’t remarry.
Therefore, when his father goes with Murli’s marriage proposal, he gets disappointed because his prospective father-in-law puts a condition that they will not marry their daughter into a house where there is no woman.
The father now reminisces about his young days and thats where the flashback sequence begins. When Durlabh Prasad was in love with a young girl, Babita. In the flashback, you won’t see Sanjay Mishra as Durlabh Prasad, but another young man is playing his character.
And there is another young girl appearing as young Mahima Chaudhry (Babita). The film has a Banarasi backdrop, and the writers are Aadesh K. Arjun and Prashant Singh, who also has directed the film. The cinematography by Anil Singh is is amazing. The locals of Banaras have been photographed suitably. And you feel like you’re out exploring Banaras.
Sanjay Mishra is a good actor. He usually plays a good character in most of his films. And Mahima Chaudhary’s role is also excellent. The new actors, Vam and Palak, prove that they are no less than established actors.
The role of the brother-in-law, that is, Vyom’s uncle, Manchu, is played by Srikanth Verma, who has also given a sterling performance in this film. The role of Murali’s would-be father-in-law is played by Brij Narayan Bharti, who is also an excellent character artist. Sometimes you’ll get confused between Brij Narayan Bharti and Praveen Singh Sisodia. As I said, Durlabh Prasad and Mahima Chaudhary have done a good job.
Durlabh goes to meet Babita to renew their relationship because in a flashback, they show how his strict father had forbidden Durlabh from marrying Mahima because Mahima used to smoke cigarettes and had the habit of drinking (Beer).
This was much against the family traditions, so they didn’t get married. And now he turns out to be a completely selfish man because to get his son married, he reconnects with Mahima.
There are a couple of tracks in this film where anti-love people come to the garden in Banaras where Mahima and others are sitting and disturb them. After overcoming all this, when Vyom, i.e., Murali, goes to his future father-in-law’s house and tells him that they are ready for the marriage because his dad is also marrying Babita, a new problem arises.
However, yet again his would be father-in-law objects, “I’ve heard about that girl, that she smokes and drinks beer, so I won’t allow the marriage.” So then it falls upon Mahima who convinces the groom’s family that discipline and culture would be maintained everything will be fine in the end.
There are quite a few light hearted moments yet fresh and appealing. Then ultimately, there’s a happy ending in this film, and the wedding is no less than a festival. The film ends with the wedding festivities.
Besides the performances by Sanjay Mishra, Mahima Chaudhary, and the new actors Vam and Palak Lalwani the highlight of this film is Brij Narayan Bharti’s good character, which is played by Shrikant Verma. And the music by Anurag Saikia is melodious. Especially the song “Babuji Karne Chale Byah” is a very interesting song. You feel like listening to this song again and again.
Quite an entertaining social drama and I personally would say it deserves nothing less than 3.5 stars. And Mahima Chaudhary is so good that I feel that she should stage her comeback in a big way in whichever good roles that are being offered in Bollywood.
